Successful Global Fellowship Training Event

Posted: Oct 2002

104 participants representing 22 countries and eight Regional Fellowships met in Denmark on the 26th August — 7 September for a leader–training seminar. 39 participants attended the Staff training course, whereas 65 went for the course for Young Leaders. Although the two simultaneous events were different in style, they shared the same overall theme: “Development of Youth Organizations”.

The events had two objectives:

  • To strengthen leadership and management of voluntary Christian, national youth organizations around the world through common training of present and future central leaders in the organizations
  • To strengthen the regional cooperation between the organizations across the national borders in order to increase the level of activities for children and youth in the regions.

It was the general evaluation by the participants as well as the facilitators that the two objectives had been fulfilled.

This extract from a subsequent report by BB Cameroon (Lawrence Nfor) illustrates, as an example, what people felt they had gained from the event:

Activities included both indoor and outdoor activities such as; worship, lectures and group discussions, games and visits. Some of the lectures given covered topics such as; Differences and Similarities between different Christian churches, Open space technology, Fund–raising, Vision Strategy and Motivation in Voluntary Christian Organisations, Project management, Attitudes and Methods in Information and Public Relations, Organisation Development, Young in the Global Village, Financial Management of Voluntary Organisations, Leader Training — Presentation and Discussion, and Democracy in a Multicultural and Multi–religious Society.

Participating therefore in an event of this magnitude gave participants some good lessons and experience in handling cross–cultural differences. Some meeting typical Africans, Europeans, Americans, Asians for the first time and getting to know each other was quite an interesting event in itself. Attempting to get all to come to an understanding or mastery of one language of communication throughout the course (Use of English Language) was also an interesting thing.

Another aspect of the program that was quite educative as well as challenging was in the area of games. Generally, participants have gained much with respect to the topics mentioned above as treated during this event and a school of friends as well.

FDF–Denmark hosted the event as part of their centenary celebrations. Global Fellowship wishes to express our sincere gratitude to FDF for all the efforts and resources they had put into this successful conference.

The next major global event for young leaders is scheduled for 2005, hopefully with the BB Singapore as a host. Planning for this event is still only in a very initial phase.

Meanwhile a number of our Regional Fellowships will organize several training seminars or other events for young leaders in their area. Do watch for these opportunities.

Launching Global Fellowship of Christian Youth

Press Release : A New “Old” Organisation

Posted: Jul 2002

The international world of organisations has seen a new member of the family being born on 1st July: “Global Fellowship of Christian Youth”.

There are members of Global Fellowship in over 60 countries around the world. The oldest member organisation dates back to 1883. Today the combined membership of these Christian youth organisations is approximately 600,000.

Global Fellowship has operated under the name of ?The World Conference? since 1963, but it will now change its constitution and working methods in order to better unite and support its member organisations worldwide. In all member countries the launch of the new name and logo will be supported by a presentation leaflet, a poster and a new website at www.globalfellowship.net

Global Fellowship organises leader training, exchange activities, sharing of information, development of programme ideas and fundraising for the benefit of the member organisations. Global Fellowship is working for the extension of this work into new areas and is welcoming new Christian youth organisations into membership.

The strength of Global Fellowship and its 11 Regional Fellowships will allow more young people to enjoy different activities and benefit from personal development opportunities that will be with them for life. At the same time Global Fellowship will launch a new support scheme: Global Givers. Through this scheme individuals, organisations and churches anywhere can support our work with the young people through regular donations, gifts and legacies.

Global Fellowship is an ecumenical organisation, whose members belong to many different denominations. Global Fellowship has recently applied for recognition by The World Council of Churches, which is the largest ecumenical church body in the world.

Presently, the Executive Committee of Global Fellowship comprises representatives from the Pacific, the Central African and the European Fellowships. The Chief Executive, Tage Kleinbeck, operates from his base in Denmark and the main office is currently based in Scotland. |top|
