He has been a member of the Boys’ Brigade in the United Kingdom (BB UK) since he was a young boy and is now an Officer in the 5th London company.

Edward Smithson

Ed has been a BB UK member since he was 6, so when he moved away to university it was a natural progression to continue his service through the international youth work projects which operate within BB UK. He became Chairman of the BB UK International Forum and oversaw the delivery of several peer education projects within BB UK - the largest of which focused on educating young people on the experiences of disadvantaged youth in Brazil, and challenging BB UK children to respond.

He has been involved in the European Fellowship as a member of the planning team for the flagship Easter Course. Since moving to London to work as a statistician, he has become a Company Captain (local group leader).

He says "This regular contact with children and young people informs and inspires my other current activities as Chair of the steering group for BB UK's project with BB Cameroon, national representative to EF and now trustee of Global Fellowship. I pray for God's will be to be done through GF over the next three years."

Chief Executive: Tim Pratt

Tim Pratt

Tim was born in Northern Ireland but was smuggled to New Zealand by his defecting parents in 1973. He trained as a minister of the Baptist church there and has specialised in ministry to young people. Apart from pastoral ministry in the local church he has also served as a denominational youth consultant to NZ Baptist churches.

In 1997 he was appointed as the Director of Boys’ Brigade in New Zealand where his chief task was that of reversing a 36 year trend of decline in its membership. This involved a significant repositioning of the organisation along with fresh branding under the name of ICONZ. Christian fathers of boys have been attracted by the new image and have provided leadership which is once again seeing BB (under the name of ICONZ) steadily growing ‘down under’. In 2004 Tim started in a part time capacity with Global Fellowship parallel to his work with Brigade in NZ. Before long the concerns of GF demanded a more concentrated effort and so his role in BBNZ was relinquished.

His motivation is to see member organisations working together to share the person and character of Christ with children and young people. He believes this can currently be best achieved through the development of an organisational mentoring programme designed to enhance the capabilities of developing world organisations. The emphasis is to achieve holistic self sufficiency especially through the development of micro enterprise.
